FOR FLORIDA HOMEOWNERS
Repairing after Isaias?
Start with the paperwork.
A simple checklist to help you hire safely and keep track of the work on your home.
See the checklistA few clear steps, before and during repairs.
KEEP THIS LIST HANDY
Before and during repairs.
You don’t have to keep every detail in your head. Keep a record as you go.
Check the license.
Look up your contractor at myfloridalicense.com before you sign. Verify the Florida license required for your repairs. An out-of-state license alone isn’t enough.
Get it in writing.
Price, scope of work, and dates, signed before work starts.
Be careful with big upfront payments.
Don’t pay cash-only or the full amount before work begins.
Keep every notice.
Save any Notice of Commencement, Notice to Owner, and receipts in one place.
Ask for releases when you pay.
Lien releases help protect your home from claims for unpaid work or materials. Ask for releases from the subcontractors and suppliers covered by each payment.
